Sisters of the Perilous Heart by Sandra L. Vasher

4.0

I received an eARC copy of Sisters of the Perilous Heart from NetGalley for an honest review. I will not be giving any spoilers or detail, just my overall thoughts since this does not hit shelves until May 5, 2020.

Sisters of the Perilous Heart follows two main characters, Queen Vivian of South Kepler, and Carina, an orphaned girl living in a rural town. During the coronation of Queen Vivian, an assassination is attempted, leaving her poisoned with the Immortality Virus, a flu-like sickness that will kill her or turn her into an immortal and make her lose all her magic. In a race against time, Vivian is accompanied by her two brothers, Bastian and Nathanial, and a handful of guards to find anyone who can help them find a cure.
Carina lives with her sister in a convent called Novi Dupree, where her magic is a burden and she is frowned upon for wanting to learn more about how to use it. She and Miguela are forced to go on the run, alone, when Immortals attack Novi Dupree in search of them. They meet up with Max, a mortal stranger who is looking for his uncle. When their path crosses that of the Southern Royals, it becomes a roller coaster of events. Will Queen Vivian's band find a cure for the Immortal Virus, or will she die? And will Carina be able to learn to control her magic and not have to constantly watch her back?

Though I did have a few small issues with this book, I found it very engaging, hard to put down, and immersive. It's a sci-fi/fantasy crossover y'all! What more could you ask for!? I really enjoyed the story and can't wait to see where it goes next. If you enjoy character driven stories, sci-fi and fantasy elements, and relatively witty banter, I would recommend checking out Sisters of the Perilous Heart when it hits shelves!
