The Law of Inertia by Sophie Gonzales
5.0
"I live because of the law of inertia. An object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force."
I did not expect this book. Although this is labelled as a mystery, i'd say it's more of a slow-paced, character driven novel with a slight mystery element.
What I wanted was relief. Relief only came with unconsciousness. If only I could be unconscious constantly, I felt life might be bearable.
It deals heavily with a whole myriad of triggering topics including depression, self-harm and suicide. It is a hard book to read. (I wouldn't recommend for anyone currently struggling with mental health as this one could be very triggering) This impacted me on such a deep, personal level more than any book i've read before. Ash reminds me so much of my teenage self that this left me so much more raw and gutted than I ever could have expected. The depictions of mental health within this are easily some of the most realistic i've read.
If anyone could listen to my silence and hear the words I wanted to speak, it was him.
Easily one of my favourite books of the year.
