Too many things I don't like in a romance novel kept me from liking this book more. For one, the pacing is too slow and I stagnated so much halfway through that I took my husband's advice and started to listen to the audiobook instead to help me power through the second half. It was an unexpected delight to find out that the audiobook is narrated by Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury in Bridgerton). But even she couldn't save the book from the tropes I don't like, though she did an excellent Yorkshire accent for Red!
I don't like the rich girl/bad boy trope, nor did I like that the third act drama was caused by overreactions from Chloe and Red after Red has a panic attack. Not my fave. I will say, this book does a nice job of showing Chloe's disabilities and limitations in a respectful way, but I feel like Red's mental health struggles came across as him just needing to get over himself. Lastly, the spice scenes were lackluster for me, and there was only one *full spice* scene that was peppered with Chloe's ridiculous demands that Red get on with it, which were kind of annoying.
