The Princess Bride by William Goldman

4.0

I was really unprepared for the humour in this novel- it was darkly funny at times, with running jokes and satirical themes sprinkled throughout. I loved that I couldn’t predict where most jokes were going, nor the plot for that matter. The format of the book was probably its greatest strength, as we’re presented with a novel that is a fictional ‘abridgement’ of another story. I honestly had to double check that an original story didn’t exist, because the narrator seemed so convincingly real. I thought it provided a great perspective on the story as it progressed.
