I’m actually fuming. This book was on its way to being 4 stars but the last 10 or so chapters suddenly turned it into completely gratuitous trauma porn that was upsetting to read and led to a pitiful version of what could have been an emotionally fulfilling happy ending. I think Elle Kennedy was really careless with some seriously sensitive topics here and they were not at all given the due tact they deserve. They were only used as shocking plot points rather than sincere and empathetic emotional character developments, as proven by their last minute addition to what would have otherwise been a generally lighthearted book. I’m honestly so annoyed, it completely changed the vibe of the book and now I don’t think I’ll ever read it again cause it was not at all comforting or heartwarming. The emotional connection between the MCs was already a little bit lacking or not developed enough and then adding intense external conflicts in at the final hour ruined everything. Elle Kennedy ought to be ashamed of herself, feels like she’s shamelessly going after the Colleen Hoover audience but not at all marketing her books honestly.
