Islandborn by Junot Díaz

5.0

I have always admired Junot Diaz’s writing especially The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, so I was really excited to see that he wrote a children’s book and what he would bring to this genre. This is centered around a school assignment where a young girl named Lola was asked to draw a picture of her native country, but she doesn’t remember it because she was only an infant when she left the island. Through talking to her neighbors and family, she is able to recreate images of her homeland and a connection to her past.
