A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

It's quite rare that the sequel is so much better than the original. I almost don't understand how the books are written by the same author and honestly this makes me scared for the third book. There's still things that I have an issue with, still cringey scenes (always the heavy romance) and I hate how the author seems to have a desperate need to pair up every single character into a classic, heteronormative, romantic partnership.
The relationship between the two main characters and the story was so much better than the first. The most enjoyable part however was the many friendships, something that I always enjoy more than anything else in books when written well.
