Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist's Journey Vol. 1 by Akiko Higashimura

Read for a Manga Book Club.

Maybe it's because I also love to draw but I really enjoyed reading this Manga and will probably finish it as soon as I catch up to some other series I am currently reading.

It felt refreshing to read such an autobiographical Manga since it portrays the author's experiences. It is amusing to see the aloofness of a child or teenager thinking they're the best at their hobby and how one's perception changes after being confronted with new encounters and circumstances.
At first, I even thought it was a fun way to portray the changes in the environment from a supportive art club to a cruel art class, but I do have to say some comments and actions by the teacher irked me. However, I really felt the author's admiration and nostalgia for her teacher and the things she learned from him while reading the Manga, which helped in noticing the kind and helpful sides of the teacher. I am interested to know how the story continues and thus will finish the manga at some point.
