Fire in You by Jennifer L. Armentrout
3.0
I heave ready many books by Jennifer Armentrout and all of the other books in this series. This is the first one that I have listened to on Audible. This one was enjoyable but I definitely prefer some of the others to this one. I am not sure if it is because I was listening to this book instead of reading it myself but some of the dialog I found to be really annoying, cheesy and worthy of many eye rolls. A couple examples include when Jillian and Brock went to Mona's the second time and EVERY character had to say how amazing Jillian looked. Another example is when Brock came back from a business trip with Jillian's dad and he said "I missed the sound of my name on your lips." Ugh, gag me. Dialog has never bothered me before but I just found myself so annoyed with the characters for speaking this way, even though that's the way it was written. I feel like real people in real life situations don't talk like that. It was just incredibly irritating.
I was also annoyed how quickly Brock and Jillian got together. Of course Jillian had loved him for years but to just be like we are together so quickly was also kind of annoying. Insta love and insta relationships annoy me because that not how normal people act in real life, most of the time. I also found it annoying how Jillian's parents were just telling Brock EVERYTHING about her life without her permission, her plans, who she was dating, where she would be. It was unnecessary. And how everyone in her family was pushing hard for them to be together without actually asking her if it was okay or if it was what she wanted.
This was a cute story but I just wasn't as into it as I was with the other books in this series. There were kind of a lot of things that got under my skin about this book. It was entertaining nonetheless but this particular book just wasn't for me.
