City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare
2.0

There were four main things I enjoyed about this book:

1. chairman meow sleeps upside down with his legs sticking directly up, to mimic death and accrue more attention
2. magnus calls simon literally every name beginning with an “s” other than simon
3. simon and izzy’s relationship dynamic
4. the quick mentions and meetings we got with the iron sisters, who i thought were really fascinating but sadly i’ve heard we don’t get much more content of them in any of her other books

Other than those, I found this book to be a bit of a drag and it was a bit “filler” ish between the previous book and the conclusion. It was a bit of a job to get through, also I had some serious issues with certain characters developments e.g. Alec is being super shady this whole book and I don’t appreciate it.
Also I find the dynamic with the “Bad Team” horrifically awkward to read about and I really don’t like the insistent incest storylines throughout this series either, there are just reoccurring mentions of incest throughout and it makes me pretty uncomfortable. Also tw for a bit of attempted rape. Maia and Jordan being together is also pretty bad rhetoric for abusers and abuse victims, he’s generally pretty unimpressive, including his actions in the past and I don’t really like him character.

In conclusion, it was weird and somewhat uncomfortable at times but strangely enjoyable when not being incesty. It’s an easy, simple fantasy read and it definitely has entertaining moments, Cassie Clare can make a good silly metaphor. I’m probably going to read the last book just so that I have finished the series, although luckily i’ve heard it’s better than this one.
