The Knockout by Bella Matthews

5.0

“The Knockout” by Bella Matthews is the third book in her Playing to Win series, and it’s Ares Wilder and Grace Sinclair’s story. Bella Matthews is a fantastic writer, and in my opinion, she really delivers with this amazing example of the bad boy/good girl trope.

For me, the fact that Ares and Grace fell in love with each other was definitely inevitable. I could see from their very first interaction that they had this special connection, and their chemistry was so very intense as well. They were definitely a couple whose future I was invested in.

A huge part of the reason why their relationship worked so well was because Ares was one of the only people who didn’t make Grace feel pressured to be the sweet-tempered, perfect person everyone else thought she was, whereas Grace was able to look past Ares’ bad boy image and fall in love with the man he truly was inside.

This book had some very emotional themes, and could be incredibly angsty at times. However, those moments were broken up with lighthearted scenes between family and friends as well as snarky text banter, which I always love. No spoilers, but I’m very happy with how Ares and Grace’s story ended, and I would definitely recommend for fans of swoony, spicy contemporary romance!
