This was my first book by this author and I really see why Nghi Vo is so popular she deserves it! This was such a great sapphic vintage Hollywood fantasy! The cover is beautiful, and the story has writing to match. The storytelling and almost poetically written sentences were so fun to read. What starts off as a child’s interest in movies soon spirals into her obsession with all things Hollywood, movies, the silver screen, and eventually fame. Grown up Luli Wei is then exposed to all the secrets: magic and monsters are real. She starts giving away pieces of herself both physically and metaphorically, and even taking pieces of others to feed her passion for all things acting. I really enjoyed that, even though there was magic and monsters, it wasn’t a typical portrayal of them. It was less blatant, and in your face, and more subtle. This was super kooky and I loved reading it so much! I went into this thinking I’d enjoy it, and I ended up enjoying it way more then I even thought I would!
