A Light Amongst Shadows by Rowan Altwood, Kelley York
DID NOT FINISH: 34%

This is a historical novel and the characters use some appropriate expressions, but James thought and behaved like a modern teenager. It was very distracting.

Rumors say William got in trouble for being with a boy and James' friend is worried about him because of his association with William, but whenever they are together or James is thinking about his attraction there's no sense of danger or need for caution. They flirt openly and spend the night together with no anxiety over the possible consequences.

I can buy instant attraction and interest to know someone, but feelings develop way too fast. James is completely smitten from the very beginning and William goes from timid in their first encounters to feeling comfortable teasing James with no middle ground to smooth things out. I felt like the authors skipped an important step.

The ghost elements weren't very scary and that side of the plot was moving at a glacial pace. Maybe it gets better later on, but I think that by the 30% mark things should be more interesting.
