The Rogue Not Taken
by Sarah MacLean
A fabulous romp. Sophie is the youngest of 5 daughters of the recently elevated Earl of Wight, Jack Talbot who made his fortune in coal mining. Each if her sisters have scandalous reputations and the ton have appropriately labelled them the social-climbing 'Dangerous Daughters'. Sophie is not at all interested in the trappings of the aristocracy. She is generally unassuming, the least beautiful and least interesting of her sisters and would be content to return to the country and run a bookshop.
Sophie meets King, the Marquess of Eversley as he is escaping out the window of a grateful lady who he just ruined. Sophie asks for his help with a quick getaway after she embarrassed her brother-in-law ( a Duke) in front of everyone at a society garden party.
Hijinks ensue. Mistaken identity, highwaymen, one-bed-at-the-inn, another mistaken identity, fake marriage etc.
Sophie just wants to escape the aristocracy, the ton and all of society's falseness. King has major trust issues. His father denied his consent to marry his first love at age 18 because of her background, King believes he can never love again and now refuses to marry at all to spite his estranged father, vowing that the title will die with him. Sophie falls for him despite his many flaws and though it takes him till the very end of the story, King finally wakes up enough to see what a treasure he has in her.
This book contains descriptive love scenes.
