The Lord Came at Twilight by Simon Strantzas, Daniel Mills

As a fan of Edgar Allen Poe, I enjoyed reading these short stories contained in The Lord Came at Twilight. The writing was very consistently stylized so the various narrative voices felt like they were written in historical New England rather than in modern day.
I also loved the psychological terror in the stories. Although some do have some physical horror elements, the blood, gore and rot, all of them are focused on the horror that can happen as people slowly loose their mind (which for me is far more terrifying).
Some of the stories I found more engaging than others, which I suppose is bound to happen with a collection of stories. Also, each story comes with an illustration. Several of them were helpful it being able to picture the scene depicted, but the artistic style is modern. I wish the style had been consistent with the writing. They could have looked like an 18th century woodcut, if people made woodcuts of horror scenes.
