All the Sweet Tomorrows by Bertrice Small

3.0

Okay... I'll preface this with the fact that I rarely ever end up reading romance novels. It's really hard for me to find one that has good enough writing in between the steamy scenes to keep me interested, as well as a decent theme.
However, I stumbled on this one when I was a teenager, and got sucked into it. Sure, it's still your typical romance novel, but Bertrice Small has this really amazing talent for writing a more believable historical romance and cutting down a lot on the cheese factor that's prevalent in your more typical (i.e.- Harlequin) stories. Hers are some of the only romance novels I've encountered which enable me to get through more than one chapter. Of course, it gets a little cliche, but for the most part it's tolerable.
Skye's story really drew me in when I read it (about 12 years ago, lol), and I remember her character being surprisingly well etched and defined (for a romance novel). There's enough drama and intrigue to make it fun, not just sap. It's also set in a time period I really enjoy.
