Accident! by Andrea Tsurumi

3.0

I really enjoy all of the detail in Tsurumi's books! It's like looking at a look and find all in one with so much happening on each page! This repetitive picture book begins with Lola, an armadillo, who accidentally spills a drink all over her parents' favorite chair and decides the best way to handle the situation is to run away to the library and hide there until she becomes a grownup. During Lola's escape to the library, she runs into other animals along the way who are making mistakes of their own. They see Lola running away from her problems so they join her and jump on the bandwagon of running away from their problems rather than confronting them. Once reaching the library, more calamity ensues and a red bird finally shares with her one word "Accident" and the overly-dramatic Lola finally "sees" the situation clearly and what she should do. Thus starts a chain reaction of everyone apologizing for their mistakes and Lola returning home to do the same. There's not a ton of dialogue in the story, mostly Lola shouting dramatic words, but the point comes across at the end that it's important to own up to your mistakes and take responsibility.
