This book changed something inside of me, truly an unforgettable piece of literature.

Zafon is a master at creating a gloomy world and weaving characters into a storyline that explores the essence of human emotions in a way that few can. There are stories within stories all set against an alluring background set in Barcelona. The lines between fiction, the truth and the paranormal are blurred in ways I’ve never experienced before, and may never experience again.

The ultimate reveal doesn’t leave you breathless because it’s unpredictable; it leaves you breathless because of the journey Zafon takes you on to get there, exploring what it means to be remembered, and what it means to be forgotten.

This book is full of quiet revelations whispered in a labyrinth of pure human emotions and discovery.

5/5 stars. It was a privilege to read this book.
