Women by Charles Bukowski
5.0
It's vulgar, obscene, offensive, and grotesque... But Charles Bukowski is one of THE BEST American writers to ever live. When people meet Hank Chinaski in the novel the first thing they usually say is how his voice is so soft, he's got this gentle persona that doesn't come across in his writing... I think Bukowski expressed that perception about his alter-ego because he is in fact gentle of heart and loneliness hurts him as much as it does anyone else... The point of this novel is not to gross anyone out, not to be misogynistic, not to hate on those crazy bitches, not to out dirty old man anyone... The point is that shit happens and as human beings we try to make ourselves feel better with companionship.. Sometimes it works and sometimes it just creates a big shitty human mess.
