This is an AMAZING short story collection. Every story is compelling, engaging, and thought-provoking. Evans excels in this work, and intricately explores race, family, gender, and the blurry lines between how we perceive ourselves versus how we objectively conduct ourselves. Evans also offers really sharp observations of the purposeful ignorance and hypocrisy of white peopleā€”it was spot on.

It was really interesting to connect these short stories through how Evans used family and interpersonal relationships to address race and the boundaries between white and Black people. I loved reading her observations about societal expectations on individuals and the relationships they have. All of her ideas felt so true, current, and necessary.

My favorite stories (ha, all of them!!) were Happily Ever After, Boys Go to Jupiter, Why Won't Women Just Say What They Want, and The Office of Historical Corrections.
