I can't tell you how many times I've either read or listened to this book. I tried to figure out the number of reads for the series and lost track in low double digits- I wish I was exaggerating! One thing I love about a re-read is discovering the minor points that you only get on a 2nd, 3rd or 14th go through. While I have challenges with the author, I continue to enjoy the world that was created. I feel that this is the first book in the series where there is some significant development within the relationship of the our main trio. There's also a considerable amount of backstory that is gained- I enjoy how learning this new information allows you to examine past events or discussions directly. The addition of this year's new teachers is a favorite of mine. It's wonderful to see an adept professor in the role of DADA for once. The amount of foreshadowing to happenings or activities in future books deserves a mention as well- it's one of those things that you don't realize without a re-read, but it shows the thought and fore planning behind the texts as a whole.
Would recommend for: fans of witchcraft and wizardry

Tropes present:
-good versus evil
-the hero's journey
-the evil one (although less present in this book than others in the series)
-magical creatures
-the chosen one.
