Wrath Becomes Her by Aden Polydoros

3.0

The concept of the story was good, but I felt like this book didn't do a whole lot and there could have been much more. A lot of the book seemed like filler, with slightly important things going on but it almost seemed like there wasn't really a focus on the central plot (the magic scrolls getting into the hands of the Nazis so they could make killer golems), and the focus was more on Vera and Akiva surviving in the war-torn world as Jewish people. This is still interesting, but the main plot was sort of a side quest on the whole journey of surviving. I think the ending fell a little flat/anticlimactic too.

The beginning of the book was kind of difficult to get through because of all the body horror, but I am glad that it started picking up around the 25% mark. I liked the integration of Jewish culture and I think it was important to discuss all the rampant antisemitism and the horrific conditions the Jewish people were put in during WWII. I just wish the book had a little bit more substance, because there was so much focus on Vera being a golem and wanting to be human that it felt like it took a really long time to keep the story moving.
