goodgaliri_reads 's review for:
The Road
by Cormac McCarthy
Brutal prose about survival, asking throughout the book - what would you live for if the world fell apart? And yet the most important discussions happen in the subtext.
While yes the language may have gotten rather repetitive as other reviews point out, it is important to remember that the post-apocalyptic world in which the two characters make their way down the road is barren. There isn’t going to be a flurry of descriptions, that’s not what the book is about. We barely even touch upon the cause of the apocalypse or any lore whatsoever. But where the book shines is in the portrayal of despair and transformation, love and paralysis.
Kept me hooked throughout. Loved the cyclical ending.
