The Ones We're Meant to Find by Joan He

3.0

"We're not stars," I declare. "We get to choose the places we go and the people we find."

"Do we? I don't think either of us came here by choice. And I think we have even less choice over the ones we're meant to find."

From that cover to the world that Joan He created to that twist, reading The Ones We're Meant To Find is an experience!

The story revolves sisters Cee and Kasey. As mentioned already from the blurb, Cee is at in island somewhere, trapped, with no recollection of how she ended up in the island while Kacey is making sense of the disappearance of her sister over at one the few eco cities left around the world. There is a twist into this story that I would really not want to talk about as I prefer for you to read and experience the book yourself. However, I must admit that I did not see that coming and took me by surprise. This is also the first book I read by Joan He and definitely will not be the last.

I am such a fan of Joan He's writing on this one. I would understand that not everyone might not be on board with this kind of writing, bit, if you're one of those readers who are into dreamlike writing and reading atmosphere, this one is for you.

“Home could be here, for all I care, if she were with me.”

Even though I didn't feel very connected with either Kacey or Cee, the bond of the sisters even while apart can't be denied. And thats what really drew me in. The lengths we go through for people we care about and the suffering that may come with it. It was also interesting to get to know the two girls with the dofferent POV's. I really  have no qualms with the romance in this books as well, however, I wouldn't say that I'm a huge fan of it. I understand that they are used as side characters and as far as side characters goes, they are really well written. I was just more invested with the character growth of the sisters and twist upon twist in every chapter of the story.

“None of us live without consequence. Our personal preferences are not truly personal. One person’s needs will deny another’s. Our privileges can harm ourselves and others.”

I highly recommend TOWMTF for every sci fi junkie out there, and even if you're not, I would still recommend for you to give this a try. Read it slowly and wait until that twist satisfies you.
