The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
5.0

“Evelyn looks at me with purpose. "Do you understand what I'm telling you? When you're given an opportunity to change your life, be ready to do whatever it takes to make it happen. The world doesn't give things, you take things. If you learn one thing from me, it should probably be that.”

Evelyn Hugo, aging and reclusive Hollywood movie star, is finally ready to tell all the truth about her scandalous and glamorous life. She chooses a young and unknown magazine reporter, Monique Grant, to write her autobiography, which must be published only after the diva's death. Which secrets is Evelyn keeping? Why did she choose Monique? Why telling her story now? And the first thing that all her fans want to know: she married seven times, but who was her one true love?

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is not the first book written by Taylor Jenkins Reid that I read, but it's certainly for me the confirmation that this author can always create such amazingly real characters that it's impossible not to love. Maybe you won't approve all the choices of the beautiful and talented protagonist of this story, but you'll be for sure fascinated. What an incredible woman, what an amazing story! I can barely believe it's fiction, Evelyn Hugo and Monique Grant seem so real to me! Their past is so inevitably connected to their present and future, and the wonderful ending left me almost in tears.

It's difficult to talk about it without sharing spoilers, so I will just tell you this: if you want to read the story of a strong woman that is fierce, full of passion and determined to reach her goals, if you enjoy drama and romance (in a very mature way, not trashy) and if you require beautiful writing to appreciate a story, then The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is the book you were looking for.
5 stars.
