Great book, cliffhanger ending.
Although this book doesn't even finish the tournament, it is still overall very enjoyable.
Our main character, Lindon, explores the depths of his new partnership with Dross. We get training scenes, constant beat downs as Lindon backfills skills most sacred artists learn early and then we get to see his overall potential come together before the tournament begins (fight scene within Akura).
We get other great stuff from the other protagonists, including a way cool new power arc from Yerin.
The book also has more romance and even some discussion of the future between Lindon and Yerin.
The ending felt a bit rushed. I don't mind that Lindon "lost" per se. The tournament was full of cheating anyway, and it's just a contest. Losing and learning is definitely part of the sacred arts. I didn't love the fact that the book ends before the tournament concludes, and it's another cliffhanger with dozens of new threads introduced, but almost nothing resolved.
Still, the book was a lot of fun and I'm happy to have read it, overall.
