Shallow River by H.D. Carlton

I hesitate to have this as a dark romance because even though it turns into that, it is not what most of the book is.
The majority of this comes across as a Domestic Violence survivor doing a retelling of there story. All the pain, giving themselves a hero, and then how they wished it could have played out. The played out part is the part of the book I have the most issues with, regardless of how satisfying it was to read.
It is dark and I felt numb through most of it, but i think it is a really good example of how that situation can progress.
The internal dialogue is spot on.
Very dark topic, research the triggers.
