Brit Noir: The Pocket Essential Guide to British Crime Fiction, Film & TV by Barry Forshaw
5.0
We chatted to Barry himself on the blog recently Barry the Literary Explorer
This is a nice short book but very comprehensive and one you can dip in and out of at will. It's a great idea and you know you're in the hands of the master of crime fiction with the experience that Barry has. He writes with wit and charm as if you're standing next to him in the bar having a leisurely drink and talking about all things crime fiction would be the best thing to do ever. Second to that is this book.
The only problem is that there are so many books you'll want to buy and places you'll want to go after reading this but think of it as a criminally good travel guide to the places in the UK you know and those you don't. There's lots of anecdotes and snippets from the writers included and some really interesting facts we never knew.
It's a real treasure trove to be honest and if you've read the Nordic Noir one and the Europa Noir you'll know you're in for a treat. Barry Forshaw knows his stuff and his passion shows. It's a real gem to own and a handy guide to everything crime fiction.
