The Stranger by Kyra Davis
4.0
This book surprised me. It kept popping up on my B&N homepage, right in the best sellers category, being compared to Fifty Shades of Grey. I ignored this for months. Then one day last week I went on a ebook buying spree and picked up a bunch of books, and noticed that this was only 99cents and said, what the hell. I read some love it and hate it reviews, not a lot of imbetween, and really didn't have any high expectations going in.
After the first 30 pages, I was not impressed, I put it down and ranted to my boyfriend for awhile about all these slutty romance books that have the same themes, you know the ones....the slutty millionaire, domineering bad boy that finds this shy, delicate, virginal, self conscience, hidden beauty and after a bunch of wild sex and drama, her magical vagina tames the rich bachelor of his scandalous ways and they live happily ever after. The Stranger, surprisingly, took all my rantings, shoved them back in my face and made me swallow every last word. I'm not too prideful to admit, I was wrong.
At only 133 pages, it packed a punch. There was of course some mouth watering sex scenes, I mean it is an erotic romance after all, but...there was more than just that. It took you on this women's journey of self discovery. It took things like cheating, lying and general sneakiness, which I usually find distasteful, and made you focus on the larger picture. This was a story about so much more than sex.
Kasie was a women who thought she had it all figured out, she had the things she always thought she wanted, the high brow college degree, a successful career, a safe and stable relationship with a well to-do man. It wasn't until one night of "letting her hair down" in Vegas with a stranger, that she started to question all the things she thought she had wanted. Throughout this story you see her constant struggle with the women she has made herself to be, she is now questioning everything. Even though I didnt always respect her decisions, The more i got to know her, the moe I could understand why she did what she did. I loved the dilemma this book brought to light...how do you find yourself and YOUR true desires amoungst what other people have expected and shaped you to be? I feel like is a struggle that almost everyone can relate to.
I throughly enjoyed this book and I already purchased the next installement, and really look forward to seeing what happens next!
