Dies the Fire
by S.M. Stirling
I chose not to finish this book, having made it nearly halfway. Reading it is a chore, and not the kind I believe will accomplish something useful, like doing the dishes or lifting weights or doing my dry fire practice. It has potential but needed a better premise, much better editing - the repeated turns of phrase are maddening, occurring as they do within mere paragraphs - a plot less filled with stereotypes, some racial, some gender, and with convenient coincidences. You might enjoy it but I sure didn’t.
