Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean
4.0
I definitely recommend this as a light read and hope to continue the series.
I read this book for the Hello Spring / Autumn Readathon. I thought it was very cute! And it was exactly what the synopsis/book pamphlet promised - a mix between the Princess Diaries and Crazy Rich Asians but set in Japan and the USA.
I loved learning more about the Japanese Monarchy and Japan, and also reading about Izumi and her family / new found fame, and how to navigate the two while staying true to herself.
Themes: identity, family, race, culture, tradition, social hierarchy, female roles, fame and royalty.
CW: bullying, racism, alcohol, xenophobia, sexism, dementia, sexual assault, chronic illness.
