This is book three in the 𝐾𝑎𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐿𝑜𝑐𝑘 series and both the first books were strong five stars reads for me: I’m pleased to say, this series just keeps getting better and better 🙌🏽
Gripping, intense & pacy, this was another complete page turner from Callaghan. From the first page I was completely hooked. There’s something so brilliant about this series: not only do they have an authentic, diverse cast of characters, a thrilling, gritty crime to solve and short, snappy chapters, there’s also a real emotional depth, with depictions of grief that are so raw and relatable.
I ADORE AIDE Lock— he quickly became one of my favourite characters from the get-go but he really does make these books so unique. Being artificial intelligence, he’s direct and literal, and his little quirks + ongoing inability to grasp sarcasm, provide some much-needed comic relief and generally make him a super refreshing and fun character to read about. His + Kat’s relationship really evolves in this instalment as we see Kat start to value Lock more and more.
I loved the podcast element and thought it highlighted some very poignant truths of the modern world and social media. These books are enjoyable in every format but I do love listening to them via audio: the narration by Rose Akroyd is brilliant + really brings the characters to life.
If you’re looking for a unique, riveting police procedural thriller with a fascinating AI character, another tightly-plotted murder & an emotional undercurrent, definitely pick this up (but I do recommend reading them in order!) 👏🏽
