I’ve been anxiously awaiting this book’s English translation and I was not disappointed in the least! I rarely read books quite this long, so I was a bit nervous going into it, but I LOVE Enriquez’s short fiction, so if anyone could make 700 or so pages go by quick, it’s her. And that holds true—this book is paced beautifully with just enough detail to fill out the world, enough characters to never feel like you’re standing still. The mixture of horror and history and Enriquez’s knack for the wonderfully macabre made this impossible to put down (which, considering how heavy it is, is a feat).
