Rolling in the Deep by Mira Grant
3.0

I loved the world created in Into The Drowning Deep and wanted to experience more. I was hoping to find a sequel but instead stumbled upon this novella, a sort of prequel, published prior to the full length novel. Unfortunately, I don’t think this is worth your time. It sort of seems like a first attempt at what later became Into the Drowning Deep. It felt a bit hollow and unevenly paced. I listened to the audiobook and was shocked when I found it ended. It didn’t feel like a fully realized story. I think the story she was trying to tell lent itself better to a longer format which is why Into The Drowning Deep works so well. Also, I think Into The Drowning Deep is a more compelling story when the details of what happened on the Atargatis remain a bit of a mystery. My recommendation is to skip Rolling in the Deep and just stick with Into The Drowning Deep which is fantastic.
