After finishing Divine Rivals, there were two main things I wanted from this book: character development and more from the gods themselves.

The first sadly did not happen, and while I did get the second, it wasn't in a way that actually added to the story. Dacre had some interesting moments but he spent so much of the story just standing around glaring at people that he just grew tedious instead.
(It would've been really interesting to have Roman, and thus the reader, grow empathetic toward Dacre, in an honest way, before he got his memories backā€”that would've given me the complexity I wanted!)
And Enva...her presence is nothing more than a convenient plot device. And what the heck was the point of the Graveyard plotline?

Anyways, I enjoyed the letter-writing part, especially with how it mirrors the first book, and there are some cute moments between Iris and Roman, but I ended up skimming much of this book, including the anticlimactic climax, and I finished it just wishing for more from these characters.
