A Spoonful of Poison by M.C. Beaton

3.0

This book was okay. I bought it at the Red Cross book sale a couple of years ago and finally got around to reading it. About six pages in I found a bookmark, so I had obviously started it before and put it down. Now I did finally get around to reading it it only took me a couple of days!

It turned out that this book is part of a series, although it did not matter that I read them out of order. This book followed Agatha Raisin, who is a private detective. She was quite an annoying character, with petty feelings of jealously towards her co-worker Toni (19 year old beauty). Agatha fell for a man called George (entirely on his looks). Agatha was asked by one of her friends to publicise a county fair, with the main event being a jam tasting. Someone laced the jam with LSD and two people died (one thinking she could fly jumped off the church roof and the other drowned in the river).

This book was okay, I think if I had read a different book in the series already I would have enjoyed it more because I would know some of the characters already and would not be wondering who this person is or what her relationship was to them. But overall it was an easy read that was quite enjoyable and had a few unexpected twists.
