Claudia and Mean Janine by Raina Telgemeier

4.0

After reading Smile, I went looking for more of Ms. Telgemeier's books at my library, and found three of these BSC graphic novels. Scooped them all up for fun fluff between books.

I was not disappointed. While I would advise offering these to younger children along with the actual BSC books, these are a great introduction for kids to get to know the characters, and possibly get them wanting to read more of the series. And it gives them a visual, since I don't think anyone remembers the short-lived series from back in the day.

My one twitch, though. Even though I wasn't a really big BSC reader back in the day, I read enough to know things about each character. Mary Ann had braids, a cat, and a boyfriend. Stacey had diabetes and dotted her i's with hearts. Kristy was a bitch. Claudia was jealousy-causing artistic and Japanese.

Yeah...Claudia's not really Japanese in these illustrations. Like, at all.
