Infernal Devices by Philip Reeve
3.0

The third installment of the Mortal Engines quartet follows Tom and Hester's teenaged daughter, Wren as she seeks to escape her safe and comfortable life in the (now static) Anchorage.

Being isolated from the rest of the world, the residents of Anchorage are oblivious to the progress of the Green Storm under their leader Stalker Fang. That is until the appearance of a limpet results in a chaotic adventure.

We also get to experience Brighton (I always get a kick out of the depictions of new cities) and yet again meet up with the fraudulent Pennyroyal.

After enjoying the first two Mortal Engine novels I was disappointed in the plot of Infernal Devices. I just didn't find it exciting, interesting, or drawing me in very well - despite the fast paced writing it shares with the previous two books. I have in the past been frustrated by the pace as I would have liked more depth to the characters and plot, however in this instance it was welcomed. I persevered since it is such a short read, and things did pick up in the last 50-100 pages.

Overall I did still obtain some level enjoyment for this read, and will get to the conclusion of the quartet eventually. However, it has fallen significantly in my to read pile as a result of my disappointment.
