The Girls In The Water by Victoria Jenkins

2.0

This book starts off well with the discovery of a young woman’s body being found in the river in a local park. The victim is identified and an investigation starts. Until a second victim is found. A second plot line features in the book when one of the detectives on the case asks to reopen a case from her past.

Whilst it starts off well, it quickly started to slow down and dragging. The book spends a lot of time repeating itself and talking about the inner thoughts of the two main characters. I’m not against getting inside characters head sometimes but when its repeated over and over again with no progression in these thoughts, it gets boring and adds nothing to the story.

The pace does pick up towards the end and but by that point I was just skim reading it to finish the book more than anything else. There also seemed to be a lot of ‘this is connected to this somehow but I don’t know how’ even though it was pretty obvious how it was all connected.

I read this pretty much immediately after Murder in the Family and loved that one so much so I’m not sure if I compared the two or if this one was a let down but would I read the next one? Probably not.
