Of the 4 Jeannie Lin books I read over the last few weeks, this was perhaps my least favorite. Not that I didn't enjoy it, just that it felt a little flat in terms of stakes compared to the other three. I like a My Fair Lady reimagining just fine, which is the basis for this book. There's a lot of longing, etiquette lessons, saving of the family honor, and class consciousness/differences. Oh and some rather sensual writing lessons. Everything felt just a little too surface level here though. So, while it was objectively enjoyable, it wasn't quite what I was in the mood for.
