House of Roots and Ruin by Erin A. Craig

5.0

I picked this one up a few years after reading book 1. I would say that it’s important you’ve read book 1 to be able to understand the history of the sisters, but you don’t really need to remember the fine details of the story. This one takes place in a completely different place, with mostly different characters.
The vibes of the story are spot on. I love the spooky atmosphere, where you can’t really trust what you think you know about the world. So many fun creepy moments that kept me guessing until the end. I absolutely loved all of the twists and turns.
The writing was top notch! I just felt super compelled from page 1. I needed to know what was going to happen next. There are some sections where the plot is a little bit slower paced but it was helping to keep building up the tension. I also found the characters well written. I wasn’t really sure on any of their intentions until the very end. They all had interesting traits that made them interesting to read about. Many of the side characters had a large impact on the plot and I really liked that.
I had a fantastic time reading this book. If you enjoyed book 1 and haven’t picked this up yet. I highly recommend it. I definitely want more books from this world!
