The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

I think that this was truly one of the most beautiful books I’ve read in awhile. It highlights the damning nature of mental illness while also emphasizing the amazing reasons one should continue to live. Are there corny parts? Sure, but I didn’t feel like it was an overwhelming cornball of a novel. I also didn’t feel like it was a fictional novel masquerading as a self-help book. A lot of people have said that this isn’t how someone with depression feels, but I couldn’t disagree more. So much of what Nora felt about herself and her life resonated with how I’ve felt about my life before, at one point or another, when I’ve struggled with my own mental health and illness(es). If you don’t like your book to have any corniness or if you’re not into predictability (because, yes, the ending was predictable), then maybe this isn’t for you. I thought it was amazing.
