I was definitely a bit disappointed by this installment.
I have such complicated feelings because I loved the writing & characters just as much as the first. But the plot was so boring to me… I’m sure some people love the political unrest & suspense of a siege and impending battle. But alas, I am not that person.
I loved the first story about a street rat girl training up to defeat the king. I did not care about men arguing over who gets to be king & rule the city.
There was certainly plenty to enjoy throughout the story & the ending left me eager to read the next one. So overall not upset to have spent a couple of months reading this one (just wish it had been a bit more intriguing so I could have finished it faster)

Moderate: Animal death, Body horror, Death, Drug use, Emotional abuse, Genocide, Gore, Violence, Blood, War
A huge amount of this book centers around a war. And it is not shy with the descriptions. There are also some really disturbing creatures introduced that exist to make you uncomfy.
