Sociopath by Patric Gagne

challenging dark reflective slow-paced

3.5

Thanks for this fascinating audiobook Libro! This was a very unique and in depth memoir on sociopathy, told by a sociopath herself.

Patric always knew she was different. She didn’t connect emotionally to people the way her family and friends did. She was not empathetic in any way, ultimately realizing she felt nothing. Patric knew she had to hide this and fake feelings so she wouldn’t be considered a freak. This led her down a path that began with lying and led to other illegal and sometimes violent behavior. In college, she begins a path of self discovery and therapy to see if it’s possible for her to change in order to have a relationship.

I found this unbelievably interesting. Gagne doesn’t shy away from unsavory details in her life and applies a magnifying glass to the problems in diagnosing a sociopath. The only reason this lost some stars for me is I found the middle repetitive and dragged out, but I recommend this to anyone interested in unique memoirs.
