I loved this book. This immediately gave major creepypasta vibes, and as someone that loved creepypasta, I was instantly pulled in.
It's a blend of thriller/horror with creepypasta. It gave slight Mandela effect vibes. The chapters alternate with articles, Reddit posts, and emails that mention the show, and I really liked this format.
I really enjoyed the writing and how it gave the story this feeling of unease through the entire book. At 288 pages, it did still feel like a slow burn at times, but I enjoyed that and I was thoroughly invested.
I liked Val and Isaac but the other characters felt more flat. I didn't love the reveals and resolution so much. Maybe I wanted my creepypasta ending. Maybe I need to have it sit with me for a while longer.
The author's acknowledgements were a good read because it added a whole extra layer to the entire story.
I disliked Jenny. She bounced around too much from being a mean ass bitch to a crying whiney lonely crybaby and I never knew which way she was going to go with each page. And then suddenly she's Val's bff but she's still hiding the fact that she knew everything
I wanted to see an evil Mister Magic but the reveal was that he was gone and needed to be replaced. I was hoping the pocket universe would be dangerous once they all went back in, but they were basically free to do what they wanted. I also would have preferred the show to be buried, rather than coming back at the very end, all fixed up with Val's help.
