The Unseelie Crown by Kathryn Ann Kingsley

2.0

To sell the whole morally gray villain thing you really need at least some positive characteristics. There’s so much potential and fun tie-ins to fae lore (loved the Shakespeare references in this one), but all we get is Mr. Well I only sexually harass and verbally abuse her, but I don’t assault her or kill her like I slaughter and torture everyone else, so why doesn’t she love me? He’s so dense it’s actually painful.

I was more interested in side characters, especially given how inept the MC acts over and over. She’s literally always crying or jumping or screaming. She makes no plans, has the most powerful powers of all, and still manages to fail at everything. Plus, the way this book ends is frustrating and feels like a waste of time. Cyclical stories can be really fun, but this one missed the mark for me.
