A plane accidentally crashes into a nuclear power plant, triggering a potential Level 8 disaster (never before experienced in human history).

This is easily and without a doubt the most terrifying book I have ever read. Nuclear power is frightening at even the best of times, but the entire concept of this novel is horrifyingly simple. (Neither this review nor the book is meant as a political manifesto but just a quick note to say if anything in this book is even remotely plausible we need a complete nuclear safety overhaul immediately.)

T.J. Newman does a great job writing a propulsive and edge-of-your-seat book that is also deeply human, and I loved the characters here. Every day people are frequently the real heroes in times like this, and this book makes that perfectly clear.

Highly recommend, though not for the faint of heart! (Also loved the audio and Joe Morton’s fantastic narration.)

CW: Death/death of parent/death of child; terminal illness; mentions of miscarriage/infertility
