Night Will Find You by Julia Heaberlin

5.0

This might be my best audiobook for 2022, it will be tough to beat this one for me. Karissa Vacker is a top voice actor for me, if you are a Julia Whelan fan then Karissa Vacker should also be on your must listen to radar.

Thank you to MacMillan audiobook for this great book. It's so good I will have to get a physical copy of the book.

Now for the book, I was so completely immersed in this audiobook and the characters and writing style, I can't even explain how impressed I am by Hearberlin's writing and how she created a nuanced, atmospheric mystery that is both character and plot driven (though more character than plot, similar perhaps to how I think about a Tana French mystery). Headerlin balances an examination of a fascinating main character (Vivvy, a new favorite) and a strong blend of her backstory, relationships with other strong secondary characters, and her present day complicated life with a compelling cold case missing child story; she adds in deft notes of a conspiracy theorist podcaster who goes after her which adds depth to the storytelling without getting in the way of the plot.

I am firmly in the "book was better" camp but I heard this is optioned for a TV show/miniseries and I would absolutely watch it as I can really see this being a strong TV show, it was that well developed and visual for me.
