The world of Dark Landing is well-defined, and not so complex that you can't understand what the author is talking about. The characters are quirky and funny. You wouldn't expect the "hero" of a sci-fi story to have a fear of space, but this one does and makes it all the more endearing. Side characters are engaging, as well. But, what's up with that pigeon? The plot has its highs and lows, but for the most part flows along at a steady pace.
