This series is hit and miss for me. This is one of the better ones but the ending feels rushed and not fully resolved. A better story for Cora than her introduction in Beneath the Sugar Sky, which introduced her as a fat character and then sent her to a land called Confection even though it wasn't her world. Cora is a friggin' mermaid! Anyway, this story has her go to an alternate school for children who try to forget their doors/worlds, but things there are not as they seem.
Moderate: Body shaming and Fatphobia
Minor: Suicide attempt
While there is depiction of body shaming and fatphobia, this is balanced by more detailed explanation of different factors affecting weight. The tone of the book is not fatphobic, although some characters are presented that way.
